Today the problem and source of infection was determined to be the stent in his bile duct, as suspected.
They went in and removed the plastic stent and replaced it with a metal one, as it seems the plastic one was pushed out of place causing infection and elevated bilirubin levels.
Tonight Russ remains in the hospital on antibiotics and a diet of ice chips only, as they want to give his GI system time to heal up. Most likely he will remain hospitalized until Sunday.
He has an appointment with the main doctor, Dr. Herman, Monday morning to discuss the next step. It is all but certain that his chemo and radiation treatments will be post-poned another week, until the 8th.
I will update this weekend, but we are praying he recovers quickly and feels better tomorrow.
